Owned for several years by M. Machado da Costa, the property was bought in 1929 by Frutuoso Inácio with a tavern, a grocery and a sausage factory that widening their horizons, it was turning into an eating house and hostel.
Casa de Pasto e Pensão de Frutuoso Inácio, that‚s how it was called the place where the Lisbon people came to enjoy good food, good wine and good environment. In fact the Barrete Saloio began as the oldest hostel in Bucelas. Maria Fernanda Inácio Viola, best known for Grandmother Fernanda, daughter of the owner, born and raised in this house, continued that name and for the next 40 years restored and recovered the building, along with her husband João Maria Viola, transforming it into what it is now the Barrete Saloio. The tavern turned to a cafeteria and pastry, the eating house a bar, the pig slaughter house a restaurant and the carriage house, a large kitchen.
The restaurant Barrete Saloio is decorated in an old way with pottery and ironmongery from ancient times. It has a front porch and a flowered window. The walls are covered with tiles in shades of blue. The service is prompt and friendly. And the cozy fireplace for cold winter nights completes the bouquet of this beautiful restaurant that in every corner has its charm.
