Colares Demarcated Region

Extensive and rich, the gastronomy of Sintra makes the mouth of any gourmand water.
Meat-dishes feature the «leitão de Negrais» (suckling pig), the Mercês pork , «cabrito» (goatling ) and roast veal . The Sintra region coast provides an abundance of fine fish, shellfish and molluscs. So it is possible to have an appetizing sea-bass or bream, enjoy an octopus or savour clams and barnacles.

With regards to confectionery, the highlight inevitably goes to the «queijadas de Sintra», ancestral sweet pastry dating back, at least, to the Middle Ages. But there are others worth trying: the «travesseiros», the «pastéis da Pena», the «nozes de Galamares », the «fofos de Belas», along with a series of traditional jams made according to traditional methods.

Founded by António dos Santos Saraiva and Maria Emília Saraiva, about 50 years old, our restaurant located in the small town of Nafarros, in the county of Sintra, excels by its traditional Portuguese cuisine and its familiar atmosphere. It has as specialties of the house: Portuguese cooked, the Goat/Lamb roasted in the oven and the Cod roasted in the ember.

As well as the Emília's special Sweet Rice. An excellent option for a family meal followed by a beautiful walk along the beaches of Sintra and its Historic Center.

The place where Atlantiko Sintra stands today was once owned by the Sintra-Atlântico Company, responsible for the trams of Sintra, used as a workshop where the trams were repaired and would stay for the night, before the building was bought in the 70’s and turned into an hotel and restaurant.

In addition to a beautiful view and a spectacular location, Atlantiko Sintra, also offers a service for small and medium-sized events.

Two friends, from Sintra's roots, oenophiles and lovers not only of gastronomy, but also of Portuguese habits, decide to concentrate in a small and cozy space, a set of traditional elements of Saloia life in the heart of Sintra.

The goal: to create a space that can bring together this set of traditions in a place so close to Lisbon, yet forgotten, over so long by its people.
Thus, in a center full of history, next to one of the oldest royal palaces in the country and in a market from the late 19th century, closed for more than a decade, Botica Saloia appears.

Flores do Cabo is a project around art, culture and sustainability, fundamental pillars in the development of humanity according to our vision.

In the space of a century-old winery, in the heart of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park,  we have developed a set of complementary activities that have animated and transformed the space since April 2005, making the visit to the place a distinct, diverse and enriching experience.

In addition to the collection  of works of art  presented throughout the space, the main gallery hosts temporary exhibitions by contemporary authors from around the world and develops a cultural agenda with various events throughout the year.

Due to the presence of large exotic interior plants, in the tradition of the parks of Sintra, , we complement the route that visitors just took when entering the main door, making explicit our desire to bring people closer to nature, and to a more natural way of life.

Gastronomy arises naturally, based on a life around the matter, as an experimental and creative initiative where the ingredients are exclusively plant based, from organic farming and preferably of local origin.

With extensive experience in this context, we present a contemporary proposal, always seasonal, in which quality and exception are reference standards constantly evolving.

With over 10 years of promoting organic, natural and exceptional wines, we always have a vast portfolio of wines for local consumption, to take away or to ship abroad. We promote local wine tastings, visits to historic vineyards and thematic private wine tasting dinners.

With a vast number of national and foreign customers who appreciate our choices, we share all the time the Colares wine history and culture.

We have also been working on other projects in the historical context of Colares wine for some time, which we will soon disclose.
