Quinta da Romeira

Quinta da Romeira

Located in Bucelas, at the heart of one of the oldest wine exporting regions (mentioned by Shakespeare in Henry VI), Quinta da Romeira began an in-depth project to restore the manor house in 1988.

At the same time, it ensured the planting of what is the most extensive area of continuous Arinto vines in Portugal. It currently has 70 hectares and a winery entirely designed to produce white wines of the highest quality.

Its history tells us that in 1703, the third Count of Castelo Melhor, Luis de Vasconcelos e Sousa - a key figure in the marriage contract negotiations between Princess Catarina de Bragança and the King of England, Charles II - established the Morgadio de Santa Catherina, in honour of the princess, which included Quinta da Romeira, located in Bucelas. At the end of the following century, Sir Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington, even came to stay at Solar da Quinta, a house with a sober and aristocratic layout, with a view from its Manueline windows of the famous ‘lines of towers’, which he had built at the gates of Lisbon.

Main wines:

Morgado de Stª Catherina;
Prova Régia
Sparkling Brut.
